Bobby Rich... was raised on top 40/CHR.  From Davenport Iowa (KSTT) to Los Angeles (KHJ) to San Diego (KBMBfm) to New York (WXLOfm).

After attempts to create a new hybrid AC/CHR format (KHTZfm Los Angeles:'80 and WWSHfm Philadelphia:'83)...

He developed HOT AC when he returned to KFMBfm/B-100 San Diego (84-89). Since 1993, he has turned his focus to MAINSTREAM/SOFT AC at KMXZ/94.9MIXfm Tucson.


Bobby often appears as a guest speaker/panelist and/or session moderator
at programming conventions, including:

  • RADIO&RECORDS CONVENTION/Beverly Hills/June 2003. "AC/HAC Session"

  • NAB RADIO SHOW/New Orleans/September 2001: "Radio Legends Panel"

  • THE CONCLAVE/Minneapolis/August 2000: "Adult Contemporary Session" (moderator)

  • RADIO&RECORDS CONVENTION/Los Angeles/June 2000: "AC's Legendary On Air Personalities"

  • GAVIN SEMINAR/San Diego/February 1999: "The Southern California Legends of the Airwaves"
Billboard Magazine and The Gavin Report have each named him Adult Contemporary Program Director Of The Year and Air Personality Of The Year, a total of 6 times. He was named Gavin's Best Adult Contemporary PD/OM 2002 and was nominated for the 2003 Billboard/Airplay Monitor Radio Awards as Program Director of the year. 

Radio & Records nominated him for Adult Contemporary Industry Achievement Awards in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. The 2003 Radio & Records Industry Achievement Awards nominated KMXZ as STATION OF THE YEAR in markets 26-100. This is a non format category with only six stations nominated nationally. The Bobby & Brad Show had R&R Industry Achievement Award nominations in 2003 and 2004.

The Tucson Advertising Federation presented him with the prestigious 2004 "GOLDEN MIC AWARD" for selfless community support. He was awarded 2 "Dynamic Duo" honors for community service by Tucson's Compass Health Care and the 2002  Spirit of Philanthropy award from the Tucson Association of Fundraising Professionals.

In 2002 he was the first media representative to be recognized as the runner up Tucson Citizen of the Year for National Volunteer Appreciation Week.

INDUSTRY LEADER
KMXZ/94.9MIXfm is a leader in the community through on-air service elements and public service commitments and has consistently won the female demos since 1993. 2002 brought KMXZ to Arbitron market domination with wide margin wins in 25-54 persons, 35-64 persons and 12+.

Bobby's first experience as a disc jockey came at age 14 in his tiny Washington state home town. A few years later he became a program director in Davenport Iowa.

Significant career successes include KFMB (B-100 FM) San Diego, and KMGI/KIXI Seattle, where he served as VicePresident/General Manager and morning show anchor.  Some other programming and on-air assignments included: Los Angeles (KFI, KHTZ) and New York City (WXLO).
